About The Position

Fairfax Behavioral Health is seeking a full-time Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. The Recreation Therapist ensures that the program is appropriate to patients’ needs and interests and is directed toward restoring and maintaining optimal levels of physical and psychosocial functioning. The role actively participates in treatment planning and implements activity services for the inpatient population, including defining and implementing treatment goals as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team. The therapist provides continuous patient care, observation, interaction, and role modeling under the direction of the Director of Clinical Services.

Fairfax Behavioral Health is a private, free-standing mental health hospital founded in 1930. It specializes in psychiatric and detox treatment and offers a continuum of care and evidence-based programs at multiple locations in Kirkland, Everett, and Monroe, Washington.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Recreational Therapy or Leisure Studies.
• Valid Washington State CTRS (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist) license.
• Obtain CPR, First Aid, Handle with Care, and Verbal De-Escalation certifications provided by the facility upon hire.
• Skills and experience in group facilitation, group adaptation, and curriculum development.

Nice To Haves

• Two years of experience in a psychiatric health care setting.
• Knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques and understanding of mental illness.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the recreation program is appropriate to patients’ needs and interests and supports physical and psychosocial functioning.
