About The Position

At PrairieCare, the Recreation Therapist implements client-centered, interactive recreational therapy services in a supportive environment. The role helps patients participate in therapeutic activities that promote physical, emotional, and social well-being, and develops individualized interventions based on each patient's needs and preferences. The therapist plans and leads recreational therapy and therapeutic groups, assesses patients, and provides inclusive, age-appropriate care.

Requirements

• Be a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Therapist, requiring graduation from an accredited Recreational Therapy program and certification from NCTRC.
• Complete job training through consultation with RT staff and other therapists, ongoing in-service and orientation programs, and off-site continuing education programs approved by management.
• Be able to shift smoothly and rapidly between dissimilar tasks.
• Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• React quickly and calmly as part of a team in potentially emergency situations.

Nice To Haves

• Student field placement in psychosocial recreational therapy is strongly preferred for newly graduated candidates.

Responsibilities

• Uphold the Standards for the Practice of Recreational Therapy, the Recreational Therapy Code of Ethics, and PrairieCare policies and procedures.
• Plan and lead engaging recreational therapy and therapeutic groups.
• Meet with patients to assess their needs and develop personalized recreational therapy interventions.
• Provide care informed by gender, cultural differences, and age-appropriate considerations.
