Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences is seeking a Recreation Therapist to provide specialized care to patients with complex mental illnesses using a recovery-focused model. The role involves assessing, developing, implementing, and evaluating individualized and group therapeutic recreation programs, including functional and strength-based social skill programs, to support the treatment, rehabilitation, and recovery of a forensic population. The Therapeutic Recreationist will be knowledgeable about the forensic population and contribute to the patient’s Plan of Care as an integral part of the interdisciplinary team. The position is within the Forensics Program, which includes Secure Forensic Services (assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation for higher security level patients), the Forensic Rehabilitation Unit (serving both forensic and non-forensic clients), General Forensic Service (assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation for lower security level patients), and Forensic Outpatient Service (assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation for community-residing patients). While the vacancy is for the Forensic Rehabilitation Unit (FRU) of the Secure Forensic Service, all Recreation Therapists must be able to work in any area of Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences as patient needs dictate. FRU also contains a PICA where staff will be required to work and cover.
