About The Position

Responsible for management-level leadership of the Recreation Division within the Parks & Recreation Department. Duties include overseeing operations of major recreational facilities, programs, leagues, and special events, supervising staff, and ensuring safe, efficient, and customer-friendly recreation services for the citizens of Owensboro. Provides departmental leadership in the absence of the Director of Parks & Recreation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Recreation or other job-related field AND a minimum of 3 years paid work experience in Recreation (equivalent or combination of education and experience).
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Adult & Child CPR/First Aid, CPR/First Aid Instructor Certification, and Food Protection Manager Certification (after hire).

Nice To Haves

  • Supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Directs and oversees operations of facilities such as City Ice Rink, Jack C Fisher Park Complex, Dugan Best Recreation Center, Moreland Tennis Complex, Owensboro Tennis Complex, Kentucky Wesleyan Tennis Courts, Combest and Cravens Pools, and City Golf Courses.
  • Develops and maintains strong working relationships with City departments, divisions, local churches, civic groups, schools, businesses, and service agencies.
  • Oversees hiring and management of approximately 170 part-time/seasonal employees; conducts staff training and coordinates certifications.
