About The Position

Our Adult Day Club is looking for a compassionate and organized Recreation Specialist to join our team. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by supporting adults with special needs through daily care, engaging recreational activities and special events. Primary Objectives Performs intermediate work planning, organizing, and implementing recreation/senior services/adult day club programs and special events; assisting in the marketing and promotion of classes, recreation, senior activities, and other special events; coordinating and providing general building maintenance of recreation facilities; overseeing front counter operations at Community Center/adult day care; performing specialized clerical office support activities; serving as pre-school director, managing a comprehensive program for children; performs related tasks as apparent or assigned. This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to random and pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Three (3) years of experience in recreation, education, and/or recreation facility or community center supervision; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age at date of employment.
  • Must be 21 years of age at date of employment for positions within Adult Day Club.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • First Aid and CPR certification within six (6) months of date of employment

  • Additional education in child development and/or early childhood education required for the Pre-School Director position.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the administration of the day-to-day operations of recreation/senior facility; performs opening and/or closing procedures on a daily basis; develops recreation programs and corresponding promotional brochures/flyers, including senior activities, pre-school programs, special events, and sports activities.
  • Welcomes visitors and answers incoming telephone calls; provides information regarding activity schedules and registration requirements; processes customer registrations and facility reservation requests, and inputs information into department computer system; processes customers for facility passes and photo ID's; receives funds and issues receipts; oversees concessions sales; may prepare deposits and post payments for goods and services to appropriate accounts.
  • Prepares a variety of program reports which may include building maintenance, lesson plans, inventory, and other various financial documents and reports; maintains accurate inventory of supplies, games, crafts, equipment, concession items, etc.; may participate in the shopping/ordering of supplies.
  • Works with vendors to ensure appropriate janitorial services are met; performs light custodial upkeep as necessary; assists Court system with assigning community service workers to building maintenance tasks; cleans up spills and unsanitary conditions when they occur, ensuring compliance with applicable OSHA regulations; performs general building maintenance as necessary, including snow removal; sets up and takes down furniture and/or equipment for meetings, classes, and other special events; operates audiovisual equipment as needed.
  • Serves as the on-site lead worker primarily during non-standard hours (evenings, weekends, and holidays), when supervisors and managers are off duty; oversees activities of assigned staff and volunteers, prioritizes and reviews work to ensure quality service delivery and timely completion of duties; provides and coordinates on-the-job training, counseling, coaching, and instruction for employees and volunteers; assists with recruitment and onboarding activities; provides supervisors with input and observations regarding staff performance and operational issues; prepares and adjusts shift work schedules; and works with advisory boards, service clubs, and other community groups in the planning and implementation of events that frequently occur outside regular business hours.
  • Performs inspections of facility to ensure participant safety; inspects and repairs equipment as necessary; maintains a clean and organized recreational area; monitors all building participants during facility hours of operation to ensure orderly conduct, intervening as necessary following all established policies and procedures.
  • Periodically transports program participants and other staff in a county vehicle for off-site activities.
  • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a team.
  • Represents the County with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public.
  • Contributes effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives, and activities.
  • Provide assistance with activities of daily living skills to clients, which can include activities, feeding, toileting, ambulation and behavior redirection.
  • Responsible for a safe and nurturing environment for those adults that have special needs, including preparing and leading engaging activities appropriate for each individual client.
  • Communicate clearly with other staff and volunteers regarding activity program and client needs.
  • Assists in all record keeping in regard to the Adult Day Club, for both clients and staff.
  • Will maintain the role of Assistant Director in the absence of the director per Health Care Quality and Compliance (HCQC) regulations.
