About The Position

WWAARC currently has a full-time (40-hour) Recreation Specialist position available. The schedule is Monday- Friday 7:30am-4:00pm (includes a 30-minute daily unpaid lunch break). The rate of pay is $20.50 per hour + longevity, and this is an hourly position. The Recreation Specialist for Day Habilitation is responsible for developing, coordinating, and implementing meaningful on-site and community-based recreational activities for the people supported that are attending the Day Habilitation program. The Recreation Specialist promotes community inclusion, independence, skill development, and personal choice while ensuring a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for the people we support. Recreation Specialists that meet WWAARC insurability standards transport people we support to/from program as well as within the community for recreational and other activities.

Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Valid driver’s license that meets WWAARC insurability standards.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of individual and agency information.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Must demonstrate creativity, enthusiasm, and flexibility in planning activities.
  • Must be empathetic, compassionate, patient, and dependable.
  • Must demonstrate effective problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Must have sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English to communicate effectively with people supported and team members and to complete required documentation in accordance with regulatory and agency standards.
  • Must be able to perform the essential physical functions of the position, including lifting and/or moving items up to 50 pounds, bending, twisting, positioning self as needed to complete tasks, and movement throughout the building and community for extended periods of time.

Nice To Haves

  • A strong driving history.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 6 months’ experience working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Developing, coordinating, and implementing meaningful on-site and community-based recreational activities for the people supported that are attending the Day Habilitation program.

  • Ensuring a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for the people we support.
  • Transporting people we support to/from program as well as within the community for recreational and other activities (for those who meet WWAARC insurability standards).
