About The Position

The City of Soldotna has an opening for a part-time Recreation Specialist. This position is open until filled, with a first review of applications on July 27th, 2026. Under the general supervision of the P&R Director or his/her designee, the Recreation Specialist position will assist the Parks and Recreation Department in various recreation and facility capacities. This position will assist with facility supervision, program support, customer service, administrative tasks, safety compliance, and light janitorial needs. Facility locations include the Soldotna Field House and/or the Soldotna Ice Arena.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of related experience.
  • Employee must have a valid State of Alaska Driver's License.
  • Must have and maintain a good driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing and instructing recreation programs and activities preferred.
  • Proficient ice-skating skills preferred, must be an ISI member, and complete ISI SafeSport training within 10 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Organize, lead or teach a variety of recreation programs for youth, adults and seniors in the areas of arts & enrichment, outdoor recreation, sports, fitness, special events, camps, and after-school programs.
  • Provide friendly customer service and assist patrons with registrations, inquiries, facility information and concerns.
  • Supervise and monitor activity and program participants; enforce applicable facility rules and regulations.
  • Perform basic office tasks and administrative support duties including answering phones, collecting fees, managing attendance, and assisting with marketing.
  • Assist with the supervision and coordination of recreation facility operation.
  • Assist with tournaments, camps, clinics and community events.
  • Assist with the development of promotion and marketing material for programs and events, including creating content for social media, newsletters, and flyers.
  • Assist with maintaining statistical data related to program participation and facility use.
  • Monitor and inspect assigned facilities for needed maintenance; clean facilities as needed.
  • Perform routine light janitorial duties and report facility or equipment damage.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Parks and Recreation Director or designee.
