We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the following position: Position: Recreation Specialist The Recreation Specialist is responsible for the direct supervision of the clients in their assigned area, and for enforcing applicable rules and providing assistance as needed. Newton Hotel Family Shelter is an emergency family shelter located in Manhattan for families experiencing homelessness. Requirements

• Associates Degree or 60 college credits courses in Human Services field or High School Diploma or GED with 1 year of relevant shelter experience.
• Demonstrated ability in verbal and written communication, including basic computer skills.
• Ability to communicate professionally (oral and written) with Spanish-speaking clients required.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, publicize, implement and facilitate support groups, recreational activities, special events and holiday programs.
• Update and post printed materials and encourage client participation.
• Assist in the development and implementation of new programs aimed at enhancing client's motivation through socialization and the development of leisure time skills.
• Coordinate programs with case managers in order to facilitate success of In-Reach sessions.
• Develop contacts with various sources for off-site activities.
• Assist in preparing and submitting written and statistical reports.
• Provide aftercare to assigned clients who have been placed / discharged from the facility.
