About The Position
The Recreation Specialist is responsible for the direct supervision of the clients in their assigned area, and for enforcing applicable rules and providing assistance as needed. Requirements
- Associates Degree or 60 college credits courses in Human Services field or High School Diploma or GED with 1 year of relevant shelter experience.
- Demonstrated ability in verbal and written communication, including basic computer skills.
- Ability to communicate professionally (oral and written) with Spanish-speaking clients required.
Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, publicize, implement and facilitate support groups, recreational activities, special events and holiday programs.
- Update and post printed materials and encourage client participation.
- Assist in the development and implementation of new programs aimed at enhancing client's motivation through socialization and the development of leisure time skills.
- Coordinate programs with case managers in order to facilitate success of In-Reach sessions.
- Develop contacts with various sources for off-site activities.
- Assist in preparing and submitting written and statistical reports.
- Provide aftercare to assigned clients who have been placed / discharged from the facility.
