This full-time, onsite position at Job Corps in San Jose is responsible for the recreation and non-vocational activities of assigned students, who are socioeconomically disadvantaged youth aged 16-24. The role involves assisting students in adjusting to center life, providing supervision, behavior modification, counseling, and acting as a positive role model and mentor. The specialist will ensure student needs are met, maintain safety in work areas, document student progress, and adhere to all relevant policies and procedures. The position also includes organizing and supervising recreation activities both on and off center, assisting in planning activities with an emphasis on safety, and working with Student Government Association (SGA) members in operating the Student Store/Canteen and managing elections. Additionally, the role involves coordinating and promoting evening leadership programs, training, and curriculum, advising students in creating and maintaining student-run clubs, and supporting their promotion efforts. The specialist will also provide feedback to SGA members on their performance and engagement, supervise SGA-coordinated events, recruit potential SGA members, and coordinate incentive and team-building opportunities for student leaders. Attending required staff training sessions and performing other assigned duties are also part of the role.
