About The Position

The City of Edgewater is seeking a professional part-time Recreation Specialist – Facilities. Edgewater is a city of approximately 5,000 residents nestled between the cities of Denver, Wheat Ridge, and Lakewood. The primary responsibility of the Recreation Specialist – Facilities is to assist the Facility Coordinator with day-to-day operations of the Edgewater Civic Center. The Edgewater Civic Center houses the Fitness Center, Police Department, Public Library and City Administrative offices. The Recreation Specialist – Facilities must be able to work successfully in a team-orientated atmosphere that provides citizens and employees with accurate information and excellent customer service. The Recreation Specialist – Facilities is responsible for the supervision of facility functions, facility assistants and patrons while performing a variety of routine manual and clerical functions, routine and daily deep cleanings. Once trained, employees must be able to perform with minimal supervision in a fast-paced facility environment. The Recreation Specialist – Facilities will work 20-29 hours per week. The proposed schedule would be Monday-Friday beginning at 5:30am and ending at 10/11am. The work schedule may vary from time to time to provide proper coverage and meet business needs. Civic Center hours are Monday/Wednesday 6am-9pm to Tuesday/Thursday from 6 am to 8 pm, Friday from 6 am to 7 pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 8 am to 3 pm.

Requirements

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the United States of America.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle, provide proof of a safe driving record, and maintain a safe driving record.
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • High School education or GED.
  • Basic verbal and written English language skills and grammar to reasonably communicate information with the public and/or complete relevant written documentation required by job activities.
  • Excellent communication, customer service and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to perform multiple functions at once and the ability to handle the public in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the operation of a personal computer along with basic Microsoft Office Suite 365.
  • Outstanding customer service and interpersonal communication skills, to maintain effective working relationships with citizens, elected officials, appointing authorities, department heads, appointed boards, employees, and volunteers.
  • Ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as an ambassador by understanding and fostering the organization’s mission and vision.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and contribute to a welcoming, guest-focused environment.
  • Provides oversight of front desk operations and makes recommendations for improvement.
  • Handle high-stress situations and difficult interactions with tact, sound judgment, and professionalism.
  • Assist in the supervision of part-time facility assistants, including supporting onboarding, training, and employee success check-ins.
  • Follow established guidelines concerning facility operations such as usage policies, code of conduct, emergency procedures, personnel supervision, registration, and other required reports.
  • Serve as a lead point of contact for visitors, assisting with inquiries related to recreation, police, library, and City services, and directs guests appropriately.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for complex customer service issues, complaints, escalated situations utilizing conflict resolution, and exercise independent judgment in decision-making. Determine when escalation to the Facility Coordinator is necessary.
  • Receives and processes monetary transactions for programs, membership purchases, daily check-ins, and other payments.
  • Reviews, inspects, and performs preventative maintenance on all fitness center equipment.
  • Coordinate and support facility setup and teardown for programs, events, and rentals, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Answers questions related to renting City of Edgewater facilities. Processes facility rental requests, issues permits and conducts pre and post rental walkthroughs.
  • Support inventory tracking and ordering of front desk and facility supplies.
  • Serve as a resource for Civic Plus Recreation software and Paylocity systems; assist staff with training, troubleshooting and advanced transactions.
  • Communicates effectively and efficiently with the Facility Coordinator as well as establish effective working relationships with co-workers and other city staff.
  • Supervises patrons and ensures safe use of facilities. Maintains security of facility. Monitors and reports suspicious behavior.
  • Acts as supervisor on duty when the Facility Coordinator is not on site.
  • Responds to accidents or incidents according to procedures. Effectively manages emergency situations and administers CPR/First Aid/AED as needed.
  • Upholds City and Department policies and procedures as well as applicable laws.
  • Attends mandatory Parks and Recreation meetings, participates in staff meetings and ongoing training opportunities.
  • Maintain regular, punctual attendance and uphold accountability standards for self and team members, with the ability to follow call-out procedures.
  • Any other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Facility Coordinator.
