As a Recreation Programmer, you will play a key role in designing and delivering a diverse range of activities, outings, and events that promote the physical, mental, and social well-being of our residents. Reporting to the Senior Property Manager and working closely with the Program Manager, the successful candidate will develop, coordinate, implement, and evaluate recreation and wellness programs that reflect the interests, abilities, and needs of residents. This involves conducting informal recreation and wellness assessments, training and overseeing the staff and volunteers who assist with activities and events, safely accompanying residents on community outings using public transit, and keeping recreation spaces, equipment, and supplies safe, organized, and well maintained. The role also includes engaging community service providers and partners, connecting residents with recreation, education, cultural, volunteer, and wellness opportunities, and supporting residents in overcoming barriers to participation. Regularly evaluating program impact, gathering participant feedback, and ensuring all activities adhere to safety guidelines and protocols will be central to the role.

Requirements

  • Diploma or degree in therapeutic recreation, recreation, community development, social services, human services, mental health, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current Level 1 First Aid certificate.
  • Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Effective interpersonal, facilitation, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with the client group and as part of a staff team.
  • Knowledge of event planning practices and techniques.
  • Ability to develop program-related reference and resource materials.
  • Proficiency in computer skills.
  • Problem-solving approach.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently, set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to identify sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality.
  • Physical ability.
  • Sensitivity to cultural and lifestyle diversity.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Flexibility to work shifts including evenings and weekends.
  • Undergo a Police Information Check (PIC).
  • Undergo a Vulnerable Sector Check by the Ministry of Justice.

  • Experience as a Mental Health Worker.
  • Experience running fitness programs.

Responsibilities
