About The Position

Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) is seeking a Recreation Specialist for the Amy Yee Tennis Center. The successful candidate will have the primary role of working with community groups, volunteers, instructional staff, court reservations and user groups, support the United States Tennis Association leagues and tournaments and the tennis community in general. As a publicly operated indoor tennis court facility with expected expansion to outdoor opportunities for tennis for our residents and visitors, the Recreation Program Specialist is responsible for program development and diverse community outreach that provides recreational services to all interested in the game of tennis. This position will report to the Citywide Athletics Manager.

Requirements

  • Requires one year experience coordinating recreation programs and a Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Recreation Administration, Physical Education or related field (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).
  • Proven experience engaging with diverse communities and forming partnerships.
  • Will be innovative and progressive in executing new ways to incorporate expanded safe play.
  • Exceptional verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
  • Be a passionate ambassador for tennis and the club's tennis programs.
  • Enthusiastically promote and execute a variety of engaging and relevant social events.
  • Ability to create, foster, and maintain an environment of quality and interactive professional engagement for members of the tennis staff.
  • Support customers by being visible and accessible to customers and staff.
  • Demonstrate a passion and have a demonstrable history of participation in the tennis industry.
  • Ability to work well, cooperatively, and efficiently within an active committee system.
  • Current Washington State driver's license.
  • First Aid and CPR Certificate within six months of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • USPTA/PTR Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise all tennis play, proper charging of fees, and rental of equipment.
  • Initiate, direct, and promote tennis clinics, special events, and programs in an effort to attract and maintain members' tennis interests.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans for adults and junior tennis classes.
  • Enforce all club rules and regulations governing the use of the club/facility, its equipment, and other property.
  • Prepare a monthly calendar of events.
  • Work cooperatively with other departments to develop combined programs for the community.
  • Work with community partners to provide external tennis programming throughout the Parks system
  • Facilitate reservations for Seattle Public Schools and other community-based organizations
  • Ensure proper inspection of the courts/facilities daily prior to the start of play and ascertains that all necessary maintenance has been performed and the courts are in safe working order.
  • Report any maintenance problems to the department manager or Maintenance Manager.
  • Monitor court usage including special events, clinics, and lessons.
  • Facilitate the scheduling and execution of USTA/UTR-sanctioned tournaments and events
  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, and directing work, evaluating performance, rewarding, and disciplining associates; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Monitor business volume forecasts and plans accordingly in areas of productivity, costs, and other expenses.
  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining excellent service to achieve customer satisfaction.
  • Incorporate safe work practices in job performance.
  • Support a progressive and innovative tennis environment by focusing on the exchange of information and the development of member-centric events, programs, and activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
