About The Position

Under general supervision of the Recreation Program Supervisor, to coordinate the Boulder Parks and Recreation Department’s Gymnastics programs, and to perform related duties as required, with a focus on Master Plan initiatives to lead the department in a growth of youth engagement and community health and wellness.

  • Ability to ensure all practical safety measures are observed.
  • Ability to utilize all required safety equipment.
  • Knowledge and general experience with computers.
  • Skills in effective verbal and written communication.
  • Must hold and maintain a valid drivers' license.
  • Must successfully pass a background check before first day of work and maintain acceptable screening.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Four (4) years of experience in recreation or youth services programming

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to communicate bilingually in English and Spanish
  • Knowledge and experience in community development concepts and practices.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with positive youth development principles and strengths-based approaches to prevention and intervention.
  • Skills and experience working with recreation software.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation or related field.
  • CPR/AED certified.
  • Former or active membership in USA Gymnastics, SafeSport, Concussion Training, and Safety and Risk Management.
  • Well-rounded experience coordinating community recreational programs for youth and adults.

Responsibilities

  • Works in a collaborative manner to help implement the City of Boulder gymnastics program.
  • Coordinates portions of the City’s recreational programs, including, but not limited to open gyms, camps, instructional recreation programs, birthday parties, youth outreach, special events, and any other services as needed.
  • Schedules adult and/or youth programs, seasonal staff and facilities for recreation services.
  • Coordinates and oversees gymnastics program’s service delivery goals which may include research best practice methods, create program plans, evaluates existing programs to determine how best to meet community recreational needs.
  • Manages contracted programs and services as lead representative between the city and contractor.
  • Participates actively in community engagement and outreach projects for special events and Department efforts.
  • Ensures all practical safety measures are observed.
  • Enforces safety standards.
  • Trains employees in safe teaching methods and coordinates daily tasks as necessary.
  • Meets all licensing and required certifications as needed.
  • Takes proper care of equipment.
  • Conducts regular inspections.
  • Performs administrative tasks.
  • Makes recommendations and implements specific portions of the budget.
  • Seeks alternative funding sources, if necessary, through partnership fundraising, sponsorships, and grant writing as needed.
  • Assists in interviewing, hiring, training and supervising seasonal and varied staff.
  • Writes and produces training manuals and rulebooks for staff.
  • Compiles and monitors records and statistics for programs related to varied and seasonal staff and programs.
  • Organizes and submits invoices and purchasing card statements.
  • Orders supplies such as equipment for programs.
  • Utilizes departmental recreation programming software for facility booking, program maintenance, and program registration.
  • Updates information on the City weather-line and website for program communication as needed.
  • Meets and communicates with staff to schedule program offerings based on space availability and changing needs.
  • Performs public relations and marketing tasks.
  • Organizes and submits recreation guide and website information. This includes writing program descriptions and developing marketing content as needed.
  • Produces public education and training presentations for various audiences as needed.
  • Coordinates marketing efforts with programs, facilities, and Department marketing staff.
  • Performs related duties as required to meet the needs of the City.
  • Promotes a culture of teamwork and synergy through collaboration and communication.
  • Serves on division, department, or City committees and task forces as needed.
  • Updates job knowledge to remain current with trends, techniques, equipment and regulations.
  • Generates creative and innovative solutions to manage organizational issues and opportunities.
  • Maintains and promotes professional ethics (i.e., honesty, integrity, respect, fairness, caring) in all conduct.
  • Knows and complies with all City and Department policies, participate in professional trainings and development, and adhere to attendance and workplace attire policies.
