About The Position

We're looking for an energetic and creative individual to lead the planning, coordination, and delivery of engaging programs, events, and community initiatives that enrich the lives of residents of all ages. Working within a nationally accredited agency, the Recreation Program Coordinator will oversee a diverse portfolio of programs, including youth and senior activities, seasonal camps, and afterschool offerings. Under the general supervision of the Parks and Recreation Supervisor, this is a highly responsible position overseeing recreational programming, activities and operations at various facilities, parks and special events.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in recreation, physical education, education, or public administration.
  • Two (2) years of experience in recreational programming, including planning, organizing and instruction.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Florida driver's license by date of hire.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain CPR/First Aid certification within first six (6) months of employment.
  • Knowledge of recreation field.
  • Knowledge of budget development and management.
  • Skilled in the use of small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
  • Skilled in using computers for data entry, word processing and accounting purposes.
  • Ability to organize and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other government agencies and the public, especially the youth.
  • Ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
  • Ability to understand and enforce rules and regulations.
  • Ability to think clearly in emergency situations when necessary.
  • Ability to plan, organize and use mature judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions in accordance with established policy.

  • Certified Parks and Recreation Professional preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, plans, promotes, implements and reviews a wide range of recreational programs, activities and special events.
  • Schedules staff to cover various parks, facilities, programs and events.
  • Recruits, trains and supervises staff on operational procedures and policies.
  • Monitors program and facility budgets, tracks revenue and expenditures and procurement needs.
  • Interacts with service providers, sponsors and City personnel on projects and programs.
  • Provides general information to park and facility users.
  • Supervises activities and enforces park and facility rules to ensure a safe environment.
  • Ensures that medical assistance is readily available, including CPR and First Aid, and follows appropriate reporting requirements when necessary.
  • Generates reports; drafts memorandums and correspondence as needed.
  • Maintains and tracks appropriate records and documentation.
  • Inspects play areas, playgrounds and facilities for cleanliness and safety.
  • Provides direct supervision of assigned staff, including coordination/training of volunteers.
  • Develops public relation strategies and promotional materials.
  • Acts as a liaison to various community organizations, clubs and service groups.
