About The Position

The City of Wylie's award-winning recreation center is seeking applicants to work seasonally as a Part Time Recreation Monitor - Fitness. The selected applicants will work in partnership with other employees, departments/divisions, external entities, and the public to deliver effective and innovative recreation services. This role will provide safe, healthy, and entertaining services to guests at the assigned Wylie Recreation Facility. This is accomplished by providing good customer service, performing regular cleaning and maintenance, supervising guests, and planning and producing programs and special events. Supervision is provided by the Guest Services Specialist (GSS) and/or Recreation Programmer, and Recreation Supervisor.

Requirements

Must be 18 years of age or older.
Valid Driver's License.
Must have Texas Driver's License within 60 days of hire.
Must obtain CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications within six months of hire.
Completion of National Incident Management System (NIMS) training courses as outlined by Emergency Management after hire.
Shift availability needed: Up to 19 hours per week.
WEEKDAYS: Must be available between the hours of 4:45am - 9:00am.
WEEKENDS: Must be available on weekends.

Nice To Haves

High School Diploma or equivalent, preferred.
Previous experience preferred; the ideal candidate should have a proven record of working with the public for recreational programs.

Responsibilities

Monitors open play areas by distributing equipment, ensuring rules are followed, and proper behavior is displayed.
Walks the areas every hour to check hallways, classrooms, kitchens, locker rooms, restrooms, doors, and equipment.
Picks up trash and provides upkeep as needed; records all maintenance activities.
Sets up equipment and supplies for programs.
Maintains a record of the number of guests in the facility by taking an hourly count in various parts of the building.
Assists guests while on trips and outings by maintaining travel logs, following health and safety procedures, overseeing safety and organization of participants, and managing departure and arrival times.
May drive a bus as needed.
Leads organized activities by providing instruction and direction to guests in a variety of programs.
Performs guest supervision by ensuring safety measures are taken, needs of guests are met, and recording and attending to any inquiries.
Performs maintenance and cleaning by sweeping and mopping floors, wiping down and sanitizing furniture and equipment, washing equipment, taking out trash, ensuring work area is tidy, and providing regular maintenance on equipment.
Performs administrative duties by administering waivers, entering them into the ActiveNet system, and filing them appropriately; completing sign-in and sign-out sheets; verifying waivers and passes; and answering telephones.
Oversees special events and decorations by participating in the planning process, gathering needed supplies, assisting and leading special events, and decorating seasonally.
Provides customer service and guest relations by responding to patron and staff phone calls and face-to-face inquiries, assisting patrons and staff in various areas of the facilities, engaging in conflict resolution, assisting patrons with equipment, supervising participants during programs, and enforcing program and facility rules, regulations, and procedures.
Actively participates in staff training, meetings, and in-service programs.
Operates a motor vehicle in carrying out the business of the department and the City.
Performs as a responsible steward of the public trust and strives for excellence in public service, enhancing the quality of life for all.
Acts in a civil, respectful manner at all times to management, co-workers, and others.
