About The Position

The City of Wylie is seeking to hire a Part Time Recreation Monitor for the Climbing Wall. This role works in partnership with other employees, departments, external entities, and the public to deliver effective and innovative recreation services. The primary goal is to provide safe, healthy, and entertaining services to guests at assigned Wylie Recreation Facilities through excellent customer service, regular cleaning and maintenance, guest supervision, and program/event planning and production. Supervision is provided by the Guest Services Specialist (GSS) and/or Recreation Programmer, and Recreation Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Must have Texas Driver's License within 60 days of hire.
  • Must obtain CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications within six months of hire.
  • Completion of National Incident Management System (NIMS) training courses as outlined by Emergency Management after hire.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, preferred.
  • Previous experience preferred; the ideal candidate should have a proven record of working with the public for recreational programs.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors open play areas by distributing equipment, ensuring rules are followed, and proper behavior is displayed.
  • Conducts hourly checks of hallways, classrooms, kitchens, locker rooms, restrooms, doors, and equipment.
  • Picks up trash and provides upkeep as needed, recording all maintenance activities.
  • Sets up equipment and supplies for programs.
  • Maintains a record of the number of guests in the facility by taking hourly counts in various parts of the building.
  • Assists guests on trips and outings by maintaining travel logs, following health and safety procedures, overseeing safety and organization of participants, and managing departure and arrival times.
  • May drive a bus as needed.
  • Leads organized activities by providing instruction and direction to guests in a variety of programs.
  • Performs guest supervision, ensuring safety measures are taken, guest needs are met, and recording/attending to inquiries.
  • Performs maintenance and cleaning, including sweeping and mopping floors, wiping down and sanitizing furniture and equipment, washing equipment, taking out trash, ensuring work area tidiness, and providing regular equipment maintenance.
  • Performs administrative duties such as administering waivers, entering them into the ActiveNet system, filing them, completing sign-in/sign-out sheets, verifying waivers and passes, and answering telephones.
  • Oversees special events and decorations by participating in the planning process, gathering supplies, assisting and leading events, and decorating seasonally.
  • Provides customer service and guest relations by responding to patron and staff inquiries (phone and in-person), assisting patrons and staff, engaging in conflict resolution, assisting with equipment, supervising participants during programs, and enforcing program and facility rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Actively participates in staff training, meetings, and in-service programs.
  • Operates a motor vehicle in carrying out the business of the department and the City.
  • Performs as a responsible steward of the public trust and strives for excellence in public service.
  • Acts in a civil, respectful manner at all times to management, co-workers, and others.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned.
