About The Position

Under the general direction of the Assistant Parks, Recreation and Aquatics Director, this position develops, coordinates, and implements recreation programs, marketing initiatives, facility scheduling, and public communications. Responsibilities include department marketing and communications, Dacca Park athletic field scheduling, permits and billing, concession operations, and assisting with community events and special projects. The role also supports program oversight, communications, advertising, design, and public relations for the city. The incumbent must be able to work flexible schedules, including some evenings and weekends. This position reports directly to the Recreation Manager.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in Recreation, Business, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism or closely related field.
  • Minimum three to five years of experience in recreation programming, marketing, facility operations, communications, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Possession and maintenance of current certifications in CPR, First Aid and AED or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.
  • Knowledge of athletic field scheduling, concession management, inventory control, purchasing, permit administration, and recreation management software.
  • Knowledge of recreation program administration, facility rental procedures, permit processes, and customer service practices.
  • Knowledge of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, physical ability and ethnic backgrounds of the community’s citizens.
  • Knowledge of writing and communication skills, including business English.
  • Knowledge of current social media practices.
  • Knowledge of graphic design, advertising design and public relations.
  • Knowledge of office practices, procedures, use of standard office machines, and related computer software programs as assigned.
  • Knowledge of computer/word processor data input procedures, photo, and video equipment.
  • Knowledge of legal and defensive driving practices.
  • Ability to manage multiple facility schedules, administer permits and billing, maintain concession inventory, prepare invoices, and coordinate tournament and athletic field operations.
  • Ability to address the needs of targeted audiences, research, create written content, produce graphic layouts, and coordinate the production of public and employee communications products.
  • Ability to monitor budgets, contracts, records retention.
  • Ability to act in a tactful and diplomatic manner and collaborate on sensitive issues with diverse groups.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, the media and the public.

  • Experience with athletic facility scheduling, concession management, inventory purchasing, and recreation management software.

  • Possession and maintenance of current Food Handler’s Permit.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the coordination and implementation of community events, programs, and facility rentals.
  • Develop and implement department marketing and communication strategies, including social media, website content, publications, advertising, media relations, graphic design, and promotional campaigns.
  • Collect and analyze participation, marketing, and engagement data to evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Oversee contracts, permits and agreements for all rentals and facility use.
  • Schedule athletic field usage at Dacca Park, coordinating reservations and ensuring equitable use of facilities.
  • Administer Dacca Park athletic field permits, facility agreements, invoicing, and billing.
  • Manage Dacca Park concession operations, including purchasing inventory and supplies, maintaining stock levels, coordinating concession activities, and ensuring compliance with applicable health and safety standards.
  • Function as lead worker over Recreation Assistant staff and volunteers; assist with scheduling and training staff as needed.
  • Assist in conducting informational meetings with staff to communicate policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Assist in the scheduling and coordination of facility use and billing for the Community Center and Dacca Barn.
  • Monitor program operations, participant satisfaction, and program effectiveness, recommending improvements as needed.
  • Oversee and market the Community Garden program.
  • Purchase or obtain supplies and equipment for facilities and programs.
  • Assist with procurement of outside funding opportunities through grant applications, solicitation of sponsorships and other fundraising activities.
  • Develop effective working relationships with community groups, businesses, local/county/state agencies, and the school district.
  • Monitor program budgets and coordinate expenditures in accordance with established procedures.
  • Meet revenue expectations.
  • Prepare program documents and maintain records and reports related to program implementation, operation, attendance, expenditures, etc.
  • Effectively respond to public inquiries for programs, events and rentals.
  • Register participants and customers, utilizing recreation software, for events and programs.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
