About The Position

This is a seasonal position from June 1st - August 21st. Under basic supervision, oversees and leads a variety of recreation programs and events; performs a variety of tasks in support of the assigned area and program. The Recreation Leader for Camp Jackson will specifically work with a group of campers to provide a safe, fun, exciting camp experience. They will be responsive to campers’ needs and act as a positive role model. This role involves assisting in daily set up and clean up, preparing supplies, and maintaining constant supervision of campers, enforcing all safety regulations, and following emergency procedures. The position requires active and enthusiastic participation in all camp activities, staff meetings, and training sessions. Responsibilities include planning, leading, and implementing age-appropriate, engaging, and safe activities such as arts and crafts, sports, or nature hikes, and developing and implementing lesson plans.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Up to 1 year of experience in recreation programs or working with children
  • CPR and First Aid Certification Required
  • Knowledge of recreation site safety rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of methods of program planning and implementation.
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and methods of conflict resolution and problem solving.
  • Skills in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with coworkers and other individuals in contact during the course of work; communicating clearly and concisely
  • Skills in assessing, prioritizing, and completing multiple tasks and demands simultaneously.
  • Skills in administering basic first aid.
  • If over 21: driver’s license is required with the ability to transport campers in a 15-passenger van
  • Comfortable working outdoors and supervising children in or around a pool like setting or large bodies of water & swimming.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and leads day-to-day operations of assigned recreation programs and activities; assembles necessary supplies for each activity.
  • May take attendance for assigned group and records names of participants who are not in attendance; calls participants or parents to verify absences as necessary.
  • Oversees, leads, and assists with various activities; observes participants during program; enforces rules and safety procedures; implements disciplinary actions as necessary.
  • Participates in facility or venue set-up, clean-up, and sanitation.
  • Supports the relationship between the Teton County staff and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and County staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and County information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
