About The Position

Gateway SRA is looking for an enthusiastic Recreation Leader to coach a variety of their Gators Special Olympics sports. This role involves assisting athletes in building skills, developing confidence, strengthening friendships, and experiencing the excitement of being part of a team, from practices to competitions. The ideal candidate will have a passion for sports and working with individuals with disabilities, a positive and encouraging coaching style, a willingness to learn and coach a variety of sports, and possess reliability, teamwork, and Gator spirit. Expertise in every sport is not required; a readiness to learn, lead, and cheer on athletes is valued. The position involves evenings after 5 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, with some weekend tournaments.

Requirements

Previous experience in recreation programs, sports, or customer service is a plus.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively with individuals of all ages and backgrounds.
Ability to lead, motivate, and inspire program participants.
Basic knowledge of recreational activities and sports.
CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Ability to lift and carry equipment (up to 30 lbs).
Ability to stand, walk, and engage in physical activities for extended periods.
Ability to respond quickly in case of emergency situations.
Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening and may be subject to random testing.

Responsibilities

Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing recreational programs such as sports, arts and crafts, fitness classes, and community events.
Lead and supervise program participants, ensuring safety and engagement during all activities.
Set up and take down equipment for activities and events.
Monitor and evaluate participant progress and provide feedback as needed.
Ensure that all equipment and materials are properly maintained and organized.
Enforce safety rules and guidelines, providing first aid or assistance as required.
Maintain a positive, friendly, and inclusive environment for all participants.
Assist with registering participants and handling program-related paperwork.
Provide outstanding customer service to participants and parents, answering questions and resolving concerns.
Work closely with other team members to ensure smooth coordination of recreational programs.
Assist with marketing and promoting programs through social media, flyers, or other channels.
Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.
