About The Position

Under the supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, Recreation Specialist and Senior Recreation Leader, the Recreation Leader is responsible for assisting in a wide variety of activities for various ages at a recreation site.

  • Possess general physical abilities necessary to officiate 2-4 games/matches as assigned
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with the public and other employees
  • Represent the District in a professional manner
  • Knowledge of and Skilled in: Communications, public relations and leadership techniques
  • Knowledge of and Skilled in: Working with youth in areas such as arts and crafts, games, performing arts and/or sports
  • Must be able to perform physical labor, lift, carry, push and pull heavy objects, walk, stand, stoop and crouch for long periods; and climb ladders.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to perform under various weather conditions.
  • Must have a minimum of one-year experience working with children.
  • Required to obtain the American Red Cross Adult & Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED Certificate or be willing to take a class in order to receive certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in planning, coordinating and supervising recreation activities for a wide variety of age groups attending the programs. Programs include, but are not limited to youth and adult sports, R.E.C. Van and the after-school programs.
  • Implements activities and provides general supervision over the use of equipment and use of an assigned area or program.
  • Supervises participants involved in the program.
  • Attends and participates in regular staff meetings and in-service trainings as necessary.
  • Officiates youth sports games in accordance with the rules and regulations determined by the District for sports programs.
  • Maintains program site and supervises general area including the parking lot.
  • Installs and removes sports facility and/or program equipment.
  • Greets public and program participants and provides information to public or directs them to proper office.
  • Communicates effectively and tactfully with the participants and parents or guardians.
  • Follows oral and written instructions.
  • Works harmoniously and cooperatively with fellow employees and the public.
  • Answers questions regarding various programs.
  • Performs administrative tasks, such as completing accident/incident reports.
  • Performs physical labor, lift, carry, push and pull heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.) Walk, stand, stoop and crouch for long periods; climb ladders.
  • Performs under various weather conditions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
