About The Position

The City of Bellflower is seeking motivated individuals for Recreation Leader (Part-Time) positions to join the City's dynamic Parks and Recreation team. There are currently multiple vacancies for part-time Recreation Leader positions. These positions will support the Oak Center, Bellflower's future multi-generational community center serving teens and senior citizens. The facility is currently under construction and is anticipated to open in late 2026. Leading up to the opening of the facility, the incoming Recreation Leader positions will assist Program Coordinators with leading teen and senior programming that will be scheduled at the facility and offering some programming at other locations until the Oak Center opens. This recruitment will close on Monday, September 14, 2026, or when 100 qualified applications are received, whichever occurs first. Interested individuals are encouraged to apply immediately. Applicants appearing best qualified based upon a review of the application and responses to supplemental questions will be invited to participate in the testing process. Interviews are tentatively scheduled for Friday, September 18, Monday, September 21, and Wednesday, September 23, 2026.

Requirements

Must be at least 16 years of age and enrolled in High School.
Possession of a valid California Driver's License is required for some assignments.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, First Aid and CPR certificates within the first three (3) months of employment is required.

Nice To Haves

Experience in recreation leadership or recreation programs is desirable.
Enrollment in college with a major in Recreation or a related field is highly desirable.
Bilingual skills required or highly desirable for specific assignments.

Responsibilities

Assist in the planning, promoting, conducting, supervising, and evaluating recreational programs and activities.
Interact and stimulate interest while conducting and supervising program activities including but not limited to sports, games and contests, special events, art and crafts, social activities, park patrol, and transportation services.
Assist with coordinating and supervision of community special events.
Inspect assigned recreation facilities and/or equipment; report necessary repairs.
Provide technical and administrative support to Parks and Recreation management staff.
Review and evaluate work products, methods, programs, and procedures.
Complete records and reports as required.
Provide and coordinate staff and/or volunteer training.
Answer questions and provide information to the public.
Perform Park Patrol duties including approaching park patrons to offer assistance or provide reminders of municipal codes.
Address illegal park activity by contacting law enforcement.
Ensure the parks are free from litter and debris.
Promote and ensure safety procedures around participants, staff, and spectators.
Order supplies and equipment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
