About The Position

Recreation Leaders bring energy, connection, and impact. We’re looking for playful, dependable, big-hearted humans who want to have fun, grow their skills, and make a real difference in kids’ lives, one camp day at a time. This incredible role is a temporary position for 9 weeks with 35-40 hours per week and the potential to continue into a permanent, part-time position. Flexible shifts are available during the week, Monday to Friday, from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. Apply now to join us as a YMCA Rec Leader for Day Camp programs!

Requirements

  • Must be 19 years of age (as per provincial licensing standards) with Responsible Adult certification (20 hours of professional development in the area of: Health, Safety, and Nutrition; Child Development; or Guiding and Caring)
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Passion to help children achieve their full potential through purposeful programming and implementation.
  • Eligibility that meets the Canada Summer Job Program requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with children and youth with exceptionalities an asset.
  • Valid First Aid Certificate with CPR level B or C (is an asset)
  • Valid class 4 operator's license (is an asset)

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate day camp activities for children ages 5–12, adapting as needed to camper needs and daily conditions.
  • Supervise campers to ensure their safety, well-being, and inclusion at all times.
  • Build positive relationships with children through encouragement, guidance, and role modelling.
  • Support children with diverse needs using a strengths-based and inclusive approach.
  • Observe, document, and support behaviour care plans in collaboration with the Program Supervisor.
  • Communicate effectively with children, parents/guardians, team members, and supervisors.
  • Participate in pre-summer training and ongoing coaching and feedback.
  • Assist with camp outings, special events, and community-based activities.
  • Maintain clean, organized program spaces and manage equipment and supplies.
