About The Position

The purpose of this position is to coach, mentor, and oversee the positive interaction, growth and development of an individual player or team as they perform, practice or compete in various competitive tournaments. This role may also include recreational sport activities in an indoor or outdoor setting. This is a support position.

Requirements

  • High School diploma general education degree (GED) supplemented by one (1) year of related experience coaching adult or youth sports; or any acceptable combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License may be required.
  • CPR and First Aid certification must be obtained within 30 days of the date of hire.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to establish effective working relationships with children, adults and coworkers.
  • Ability to work well with children.
  • Ability to be friendly and courteous at all times when working with the children, customers and staff.
  • Ability to be creative with activities for the children.
  • Ability to delegate tasks to assistants.
  • Ability to take direction from supervisory staff.
  • On a continuous basis, sit at desk and/or stand at counter for long periods of time.
  • Frequently required to walk, see, hear and talk with the public and read presented documents.
  • On occasion required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, taste, or smell; Intermittently twist and reach; lift or carry weight regularly of 10 pounds and on occasion weight of up to 40 pounds.
  • Specific vision required includes close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field such as education, recreation or physical education preferred.
  • Coaching certification or license preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and implements age-appropriate lesson plans, in advance of practice, for each day of programs assigned.
  • Introduces and instructs the key fundamentals, rules, and skills required to play a particular sport.
  • Enforces the rules and regulations of City parks, facilities and fields.
  • Communicate program expectations and goals to parents and players.
  • Tracks the participants' attendance.
  • Start and end practices on time.
  • Attend all practices, games and tournaments assigned.
  • Conducts skill development assessments and provides feedback to the participant as well as the parents.
  • Maintains and submits attendance, performance and program related forms, records and reports as required.
  • Maintains adequate inventory of program or recreational activity equipment and supplies.
  • Administers first aid, if necessary.
  • Ensures supervisor is updated orally, or in writing, on all activities and is kept informed of any related issues.
  • Opens, monitor, and closes athletic facilities and fields; perform facility maintenance, i.e. practice and field equipment storage, garbage disposal or cleaning up.
  • Models, teach, practice and enforce good sportsmanship.
  • Provides a safe, fun and educational environment for all players.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
