About The Position

The City of Claremont is seeking enthusiastic, highly motivated, service-minded individuals with excellent public relations skills to assist with a variety of assignments associated with Youth Programs/Camp Claremont, Front Counter and Facility Reservations/Wading Pools, and Senior Programs. The Recreation Leader position is part-time, requiring up to 25 hours per week. This year-round position will work special events and some weekends. Mandatory special events include Village Venture, Halloween Spooktacular, Holiday Promenade, Spring Celebration, and 4th of July Celebration. Recreation Leaders may also be called upon to work for other program areas within the Recreation and Human Services Department. Candidate applications will be screened for minimum qualifications and against the pool of qualified applicants. Successful candidates will be invited to a panel interview. Recruitment dates are subject to change and may close once a sufficient number of qualified applicants are received. All candidates will be notified of their standing via email.

Requirements

  • Completion of the 12th grade, or equivalent.
  • Experience working with the public.
  • Valid California Class C Driver's License and an acceptable driving record at the time of appointment.
  • Must maintain a current license and acceptable driving record throughout the term of employment.
  • Must be able to earn a certification in CPR and First Aid during a City-provided training course.

Responsibilities

  • Supervising, mentoring, and keeping participants safe and engaged in Youth Programs (TRACKS Activity Center, Youth Activity Center, Camp Claremont).
  • Answering phones and taking messages.
  • Having direct contact with students and parents.
  • Cash handling, food prep, restocking, and taking inventory.
  • Planning and implementing daily activities.
  • Overseeing the volunteer program.
  • Providing clerical and receptionist duties at the Community Center Front Counter.
  • Setting up and tearing down for facility rentals, including moving tables and chairs and setting up audio-visual equipment.
  • Assisting with projects such as developing marketing materials for the City’s Activity Guide and assisting with park picnic reservation postings.
  • Providing support for the Joslyn Center front desk, including clerical tasks, room setups, and customer service for Senior Programs.
  • Operating computer, telephone, portable radio, security systems, audio and visual equipment, and other common office equipment.
  • Understanding and responding to public and staff requests for assistance.
  • Administering basic first aid as directed.
  • Planning and organizing recreational programs.
  • Counting money.
  • Sitting, standing, stooping, or bending for up to four hours at a time.
  • Lifting up to 60 pounds.
  • Effectively communicating both orally and in writing.
  • Traveling from one location to another in the course of doing business.
