About The Position

This is a temporary position for the summer with the potential to lead to per diem thereafter. The Recreation Therapy Leader will ascertain initially, from the resident's/patient's attending physician and on an on-going basis from other appropriate professional staff which residents/patients are medically permitted to participate in the Therapeutic Recreation Program. They will develop and prepare for each resident/patient a written plan for individual, group, and independent activities, in accordance with his/her needs, interests, and capabilities. The leader will invite and encourage appropriate residents/patients to participate in daily programs per therapy schedule, incorporate the Therapeutic Recreation plan into the resident/patient comprehensive plan of care, and at least quarterly, or as needed, review with the resident/patient his/her Therapeutic Recreation Program participation and revise the plan as necessary. They will coordinate the Therapeutic Recreation Program with resident's/patient's schedule of other services, develop a monthly/weekly schedule calendar, and implement programs for residents/patients as assigned. This role involves planning, organizing, and implementing a variety of leisure-oriented group and individual activities; domestic, cultural, musical, social intellectual, recreational, and sensory stimulation. The leader will provide a list of supplies and plans necessary for group implementation, in advance, to the Director of TR, maintain resident/patient participation by visiting and stimulating conversation, and document resident's/patient's attendance daily. They will complete progress notes and care plans on assigned caseload per policy, ensure the program area is clean and in good order before and after each program session, and effectively communicate with residents based on their current abilities. The leader will assist residents/patients to rest room facilities when attending outside functions, and may lift or bear weight of up to 50 pounds when transferring residents/patients. Attendance at facility's in-service programs, department staff meetings, individual planning meetings with the TR Director, TR team meetings, care planning meetings, team conferences, and facility meetings as scheduled is required. The role requires flexibility and willingness to work a varied schedule (holidays, evenings, weekends). Duties also include lifting objects up to 50lbs, removing trash, sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors as needed. The leader will assure continued wash/dry/accurate delivery of resident clothing, assist with meal prep as directed, and perform duties according to the highest ethical and moral standards and in adherence with the facility's corporate compliance plan and all applicable governing laws. Adherence to the facility's confidentiality statement in accessing and safeguarding protected health information (PHI) of residents and employees is mandatory. Maintaining a safe environment for residents in/out of the facility and performing any other duties as requested by the Supervisor, Director, Administrator, or Executive Director are also part of the responsibilities.

Requirements

  • High School graduate.
  • Associates Degree or higher, or in lieu may substitute appropriate specialized training in related field.
  • Background in Recreation (Therapeutic Concentration preferred).
  • Ability to plan and organize recreational therapy programs.
  • Must have a sincere desire to work with the elderly and have an understanding of the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive needs of the elderly and developmentally disabled.
  • Be able to plan, organize, and implement goal driven programs that are based on individual interests and needs.
  • Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, enthusiasm, and be able to work with residents/patients based on their functioning status.
  • Must have a valid New York State Driver's License.

  • Lift objects, including water mop buckets, household garbage bags, linens, laundry bags weighing up to 50lbs.
  • remove trash on assigned shift to dumpsters.
  • Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors as needed.
  • Assures continued wash/dry/accurate delivery of resident clothing to rooms during shift.
  • Assist with meal prep as directed including menus, proper heating of food items, ability to serve proper consistency, cleaning tables, washing dishes after meals as directed.
  • Perform duties according to the highest ethical and moral standards nd in adherence with the facility's corporate compliance plan and all applicable governing laws.
  • Adheres to the facility's confidentiality statement in accessing and safeguarding protected health information (PHI) of residents and employees, as necessary to perform job duties.
  • Maintain safe environment for residents in/out of facility.
  • Perform any other duties as requested by the Supervisor, Director, Administrator, Executive Director.
