Recreation Leader I/II - Teen Center and Youth Sports

About The Position

The City of San Ramon is seeking energetic and enthusiastic staff to work at the Middle School Teen Centers. Teen Center staff will be responsible for planning and implementing fun weekly activities for middle schoolers, assisting with homework, and supervising participants. The hours for the Teen Center are Monday through Friday, 2:00 PM to 6:15 PM, with flexible scheduling available. Opportunities may also arise to work special City events, weekends, holidays, and shifts at other facilities. This role involves providing leadership and functional oversight to recreation programs, organizing program elements, and overseeing participants.

Requirements

  • Must be a minimum of 16 years old (Recreation Leader I)
  • Must be a minimum of 17 years old (Recreation Leader II)
  • Experience working with children in a sport setting, day camp, child care program, youth program or summer camp is desired
  • Appropriate clearances from background check/fingerprinting
  • Documentation of a negative skin test for TB within the last two (2) years
  • At least 250 hours of experience working with children in a sport setting, day camp, child care program, youth program or summer camp, or an equivalent combination of education and experience (Recreation Leader II)
  • Knowledge of common sports, games, and recreation activities appropriate for all ages
  • Knowledge of youth supervision and leadership techniques
  • Knowledge of concepts of program risk management and safe work practices
  • Ability to supervise and lead youth of various ages
  • Ability to communicate effectively and possess excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Ability to provide reliable and dependable assistance
  • Ability to provide creativity and enthusiasm
  • Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather and temperature conditions
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction (Recreation Leader II)

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and engage with program participants

  • Understand and implement Parks & Community Services Department Policies and Procedures
  • Provide program feedback to supervisory staff
  • Open, close, and secure program sites (Recreation Leader II)
  • Plan and organize program elements (Recreation Leader II)
  • Supervise volunteers in program area (Recreation Leader II)
