About The Position

Plans, coordinates and promotes recreational programs and activities; develops and implements recreation programs. General supervision is received from the Recreation Director, Recreation Leader or Recreation Assistant I and II. Direct supervision may be provided for recreation leaders and other instructors. Responsible for on-site management of a recreation center facility. Implements program activities by conducting, guiding and training program participants. Registers participant for classes. Prepares and distributes flyers, pamphlets and other general promotional material. Prepares monthly activity calendars and reports as required. Performs duties in accordance with City and departmental policies. Perform related work as required. After the evaluation of minimum qualifications, examination parts for this recruitment may include, but are not limited to the following: written exam, performance exam, oral appraisal interview, physical ability test, oral presentation, project assignment, etc. If moved forward, candidates will be notified via email of the type of examination required for this recruitment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the philosophy, principles, practices and techniques of modern recreation administration.
  • Ability to plan and organize group and individual recreational programs and activities.
  • Ability to involve groups and individuals in program participation.
  • Ability to understand and communicate with supervisor.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public and other city employees.
  • Ability to stand, bend, sit, kneel, reach and move about safely in city business office work locations.
  • Ability to pick-up, manipulate, move, raise and lower small business office equipment, materials and supplies, and work products weighing 30 lb. or less; and to use approved stepping stools/ladders to reach heights between 6'0" and 7' 6".
  • Ability to read handwritten, typed or machine generated text, graphical and statistical material without aides other than eyeglasses and, or contact lenses.
  • Ability to absorb data, learn and apply procedures required to perform the full range of analytic tasks required by typical duties of the class.
  • One (1) year experience serving as a Recreation Instructor or related field (preferred).
