About The Position

Under general supervision, teaches, instructs, or coaches a variety of activities which may include; sports (such as swimming, tennis, soccer, etc.), arts and crafts, dance, aerobics, drama, fitness, music, photography, martial arts, spoken word and various recreational, educational, or cultural enrichment events for various age groups. Reports to a Fitness Specialist, Recreation Specialist, or Recreation Supervisor. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent with one to two years' experience in teaching or instructing classes or activities, direct interaction with adults and children; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Must possess and maintain CPR & First Aid Certifications within six months of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in behavior management with the ability to supervise groups of children and/or adults is desirable.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Interacts with the general public in person and by phone; provides information about programs and activities; registers participants; issues and checks membership cards; receives fees; enforces rules and regulations of the facility.
  • Sets up and takes down equipment used for classes and events; maintains, stores, and monitors inventory of equipment.
  • Instructs programs, classes, activities, and events; leads crafts, games and other activities for children and adults.
  • Provides assistance and input regarding programs, participants, and volunteers.
  • Operates a personal computer and other equipment necessary to complete essential functions to include word processing, e-mail and other programs.
  • Keeps rosters and attendance reports for classes, submits reports to supervisor.
  • May assist with planning and preparation for the department's classes to include preparing flyers, making phone contacts, sending out correspondence.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
