About The Position

The Valley Shore YMCA is seeking a friendly, reliable, and service-oriented Childcare Attendant to create a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for children while supporting parents and families. Requirements

  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Strong customer service and verbal communication skills.
  • Child Abuse Prevention training required within 7 days of hire.
  • Minimum age requirement of 16, as required by state regulations and YMCA policy.
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certification required within 90 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with children in a childcare, educational, or developmental setting preferred.
  • Ability to plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities for various age groups.
  • Professionalism, maturity, and conduct reflecting YMCA core values.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to communicate effectively with parents, children, and coworkers.

Responsibilities

  • Provide active supervision of all children and program activities, ensuring safety, engagement, and rapport.
  • Introduce children to rules, routines, schedules, and designated activity areas.
  • Track attendance accurately and ensure the safety and well-being of each child.
  • Report all accidents or incidents to supervisors and complete documentation accurately and promptly.
  • Follow all YMCA and regulatory procedures and maintain a clean, safe, and organized program environment.
  • Assist with daily set-up, breakdown, inventory, and proper storage of equipment and supplies.
  • Build positive relationships with children, families, members, and staff.
  • Support implementation of special activities, themed plans, and enrichment experiences.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to parents, members, and coworkers.
  • Attend required meetings, training, or professional development opportunities.
