About The Position

The City of Windsor is seeking a Part-Time Recreation Facilities Attendant to join their Parks, Recreation & Facilities department. This role involves the maintenance and operation of recreation facilities such as arenas and community centres. The position requires performing cleaning duties, providing information to the public, assisting with rink operations, maintaining records, and ensuring facilities are clean and secure. The attendant must be courteous, cooperative, and able to communicate effectively with employees and the public. They will also be responsible for adhering to Occupational Health & Safety standards and performing other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalency.
  • Two years of related work experience in one or a combination of the following areas: customer/public service; maintenance/janitorial; ice rink/recreational facilities.
  • Current and valid Intermediate First Aid and CPR certification obtained from a first aid training provider approved by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) by date of hire and maintained for the full term of employment.
  • Availability to work all shifts, including days, afternoons, midnights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Good public relation skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to keep records and write reports.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the hazards associated with the work.
  • Minimum of 17 years of age at time of application.
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Successful completion of training on the handling of various cleaning materials or related chemicals and their use in building maintenance.
  • Successful completion of training on ice resurfacer (Zamboni) if required by the Department.
  • Successful completion of a post-offer agility test.
  • Willingness to provide at own expense a uniform including an initial and replacement Canadian Standards Association black hockey helmets as required, one (1) pair of safety shoes or boots, two (2) pairs of pants and two (2) shirts, to be worn in accordance with standard issue.

Nice To Haves

  • A current, valid Class G or G2 driver’s licence in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act for the purpose of operating a City of Windsor vehicle (e.g., Club Car). Applicants who possess a Class G or G2 licence will be required to provide a driver’s abstract as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform cleaning duties such as washing walls, woodwork, windows, lights, sweeping floors, vacuuming carpets, cleaning washrooms, operating mechanical floor cleaners and picking up refuse.
  • Provide general direction and information to the public.
  • Assist the Rink Attendant with tasks such as moving hockey nets, snow removal, resurfacing the ice, and maintaining dressing rooms and washrooms.
  • Operate the ice resurfacer, perform daily maintenance, and monitor the refrigeration plant when assigned to outdoor rinks.
  • Maintain written records and prepare legible and concise verbal and written reports.
  • Be courteous, cooperative, and able to communicate verbally and in writing, maintaining cordial relations with employees and the general public.
  • Monitor and secure all service areas in the facility, ensuring they are left clean and ready for public use.
  • Efficiently operate all equipment associated with building maintenance.
  • Be properly dressed at all times in accordance with safety standards.
  • Perform Occupational Health & Safety duties as outlined in the Corporation’s Health and Safety Program.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
