About The Position

Under the supervision of the Recreation Manager/Recreation Group Leader, the incumbent assists in planning and arranging as directed and chaperons assigned youth on and off-site recreational activities. This role also serves as the department contact for second shift employees and other departments in the absence of department management. The Recreation Counselor documents children's daily activities to share with parents. This position requires a strong sense of teamwork, excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated tact and diplomacy, and self-motivation. Responsibilities include researching age-appropriate activities on the internet and providing individualized assistance to participants who may require additional support to fully participate in recreational, social, and enrichment activities. This role promotes independence, positive social interactions, and active participation while helping ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all participants throughout the program. The counselor also assists the department leader with special programs, activities, and events.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) required.
  • Three (3) years of directly related experience with children, teens, or adults with disabilities or diverse support needs required.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Must have CPR Certification and First Aid Certification or must obtain CPR and First Aid Certification within 3 months of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Driver's License is a plus.
  • Sports related licensing or Youth Sport Coach Certification is a plus.
