About The Position

The City of Moorhead is accepting applications for a Recreation Coordinator in the Recreation Department. This advanced human support position performs basic work developing, planning, organizing and promoting activities for senior citizen programs, assisting the Parks and Recreation department with other programs and events as needed, designing program and marketing material for the Parks and Recreation department, and related work as required. This position exercises general supervision over assigned staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Social work, or related field
  • One year experience in community/public program management, senior activities planning , or related field
  • Thorough knowledge of the social, economic and behavioral characteristics of senior citizens in the community
  • Thorough knowledge of principles of staff supervision and training
  • Ability to plan and supervise the work of subordinates
  • Ability to prepare administrative and financial reports
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to prepare and maintain records
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city and community officials, governmental agencies, program participants, media personnel and the general public
  • Skills in using computer applications used by the Parks and Recreation department and experience in Microsoft Office Suite, InDesign, Sportsman Software and similar programs

Responsibilities

  • Develops, plans, organizes, and leads activities for senior citizens; hires, supervises and evaluates program instructors.
  • Coordinates programs and event activities with other community agencies and stakeholders
  • Provides general consultation and referral to seniors regarding community services.
  • Recruits, selects, trains, schedules and supervises temporary/seasonal employees as assigned.
  • Assists with building rental activities as needed; including room rentals, set-ups, customer inquiries and other facility duties.
  • Coordinates and leads the effort to secure donations, sponsorships, and scholarships for senior programs.
  • Develops a monthly senior newsletter and maintains mailing list.
  • Recruits and coordinates senior volunteers to assist with programs and events.
  • Works closely with the Community Outreach Coordinator and City Communication Division regarding public relations, public presentations, press releases and other promotional materials.
  • Works with food contractor to help promote senior meal program.
  • Oversees the Canoe/Kayak, XC Ski program, and other activities as assigned.
  • Compiles program participant evaluations and prepares a quarterly report on the senior programs for the Park Advisory Board.
  • Assists the Recreation Director with preparing and monitoring the annual budget for the senior programs.
  • Performs other duties as requested.
  • Attendance at off-site courses/trainings/seminars may be required
  • Performs or effectively recommends the hiring, transfer, suspension, promotion, discharge, assignment, reward, discipline, direction of work, and adjustment of grievances of subordinate personnel
