About The Position

The City of Cedar Park is seeking a Recreation Coordinator responsible for the direction, planning, organization, supervision, and scheduling of assigned programs. These programs may include nature-based, multi-generational, senior, athletics, arts, therapeutic recreation, fitness, or STEM programs. The role involves developing and maintaining community volunteer programs, managing vendors, ensuring safety, and overseeing staff schedules, programs, and special events. The coordinator will maintain accurate records of program revenues, attendance, and operating costs, oversee program development and implementation, manage events and special projects, and collaborate with divisions and departments for promotion and advertising. Responsibilities also include developing and updating facility rules, policies, and procedures, evaluating program fees, adding programs to registration software and guides, working with community organizations and instructors, assisting with budget development and management, and developing short- and long-term goals for the recreation division. The role involves issuing purchase orders, performing inventory, developing multi-generational programs, working closely with the public and community organizations, and working evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary. The position also coordinates special projects and performs other related duties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Parks and Recreation administration, Therapeutic Recreation, or a closely related degree.
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in the supervision, operation, and management of recreation facilities and programs.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Possession of a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) designation, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hiring.

Responsibilities

  • Direct, plan, organize, supervise, and schedule assigned recreation programs.
  • Develop and maintain community volunteer programs.
  • Manage vendors and ensure safety.
  • Oversee and manage assigned staff schedules, programs, and special events.
  • Maintain accurate records of program revenues, attendance, and operating costs.
  • Oversee the development, scheduling, and implementation of recreation programs.
  • Manage and develop events, tournaments, and special projects.
  • Work with associated divisions and departments to promote and advertise programs and events.
  • Develop and update recreation facility rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Evaluate fees for fee-based programs and provide recommendations for adjustments.
  • Add programs into recreation registration software and program guide.
  • Work with community organizations and contracted instructors in planning and organizing recreation.
  • Assist the Recreation Manager in supporting budget development and manage the division budget.
  • Assist the Recreation Manager with developing short- and long-term goals, objectives, and operating procedures.
  • Issue and process purchase orders for equipment purchases and approve purchases up to $3,000.
  • Perform regular inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • Develop and update multi-generational programs that build partnerships.
  • Work closely with the public and community organizations, including developing contracts and partnerships.
  • Work evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary to support programs, leagues, and other special events.
  • Coordinate and conduct special projects and programs as assigned.
  • Plan and promote engaging recreation programs, events, and community activities.
  • Lead and motivate staff and volunteers to deliver high-quality services.
  • Develop and manage budgets, including purchasing procedures and resource allocation.
  • Ensure safety and manage risk, including emergency response readiness.
  • Maintain accurate records of facility operations, revenue, attendance, and inventory.
  • Establish and enforce policies for facility and program use.
  • Manage emergency situations with composure and adherence to established safety protocols.
  • Collaborate effectively with other departments, community organizations, and local groups.
  • Build strong relationships with community organizations, public groups, and internal teams.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with diverse audiences.
  • Interpret and apply laws, regulations, and internal procedures.
  • Advertise and market recreation offerings to drive awareness and participation.
