About The Position

The purpose of this classification is to coordinate and implement recreational activities for operations of the Henry County Senior Services Department. This role involves planning, organizing, and implementing activities, classes, trips, and special events at an assigned Senior Center. The Aide serves as an assistant and/or instructor, encourages senior resident participation, and assists in coordinating daily activities. They also handle public information, registration, and coordinate volunteers, instructors, and community partners. Ensuring the safety and security of equipment and facilities, completing necessary forms, and performing customer service functions are also key aspects of the role. This position requires processing various documentation, operating computers and office equipment, and communicating effectively with various stakeholders. The role also involves handling payments and maintaining records.

Requirements

  • Requires High School diploma or to be currently enrolled.
  • Experience in athletics, sports, or generation recreation, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Knowledge of local government operations, recreation related programs, policies and plans, and modern office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other similar programs.
  • Skill in the use of computers and software applications related to the essential functions of the job.
  • Skill in effective communication, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to meet and deal with employees and the public in an effective and courteous manner.
  • Ability to get along with others, and work effectively with the public and co-workers.
  • Ability to multi-task and work within deadlines.
  • Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive matters.
  • Ability to use computers for data entry, word processing, and accounting purposes.
  • Ability to operate a copying machine.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes and implements activities, classes, trips, and special events at an assigned Senior Center.
  • Serves as assistant and/or instructor for classes and activities.
  • Assists in coordinating daily activities of assigned Senior Center.
  • Encourages senior residents to participate in activities.
  • Assists participants at registration desk; provides public information about recreational programs; registers participants for classes, activities and events.
  • Assists in maintaining registration filing system.
  • Works with and coordinates efforts of volunteers, instructors and community partners on site.
  • Assists in preparation of classes, activities and events.
  • Ensures safety and security of equipment and facilities.
  • Completes accident and incident forms as needed and forwards to appropriate personnel for processing.
  • Performs customer service functions; provides routine information/assistance regarding department/division services, activities, procedures, fees, or other issues.
  • Distributes forms/documentation as requested; responds to routine questions or complaints.
  • Assists in resolving participant complaints by recording complaints and referring to appropriate management.
  • Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated timeframes and per established procedures.
  • Receives and reviews various documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards, or retains as appropriate.
  • Prepares or completes various forms, reports, flyers, correspondence, and other documentation.
  • Compiles data for further processing or for use in preparation of department reports.
  • Maintains computerized and/or hardcopy records.
  • Operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review, or modify data, utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, Internet, e-mail, or other software.
  • Operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.
  • Communicates with supervisor, other County employees, the public, outside agencies, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Ability to work with and process payments for accounts within the budget and department.
