About The Position

Facilitates youth recreational activities by supervising, participating, or teaching. This role involves direct interaction with youth, assisting in various programs, and ensuring a safe and secure environment. The Recreation Aide also supports athletic events, coordinates equipment setup, and utilizes the Boys Town Model to teach and monitor behaviors and skills. Depending on certification, the role may include lifeguard duties. The position also involves assisting with youth supervision during the school day, monitoring facility access, and supporting administrative tasks during emergencies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 19 years of age required.
  • CPR – First Aid – AED Certified within 60 days of transfer or hire required.
  • Knowledge of recreational activities, equipment, and safe practices.
  • Ability to communicate in an articulate, professional manner.
  • Ability to adapt responses to situations while maintaining procedural and regulatory integrity.
  • Ability to build disciplined and positive relationships with BT youth.
  • Ability to build positive, and professional relationships with coworkers and other Boys Town Staff.
  • Must have and maintain sufficient mental acuity and physical strength, agility, and endurance to perform all job requirements (including stressful situations - physically, mentally, and emotionally) encountered on the job without compromising the health and well-being of self, fellow employees, and youth or families.
  • Must have sufficient vision, hearing, speech and the mobility to monitor youth, actively participate in safety procedures, and participate in physical activities with youth.
  • Push and pull at least 80 pounds of force, lift up to 50 pounds, carry safely up to 40 pounds, as well as the ability to reach overhead, bend, and squat with ease.

Nice To Haves

  • Lifeguard Certification for some positions required.
  • Recreational, athletic, or experience working with youth preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Attends scheduled program hours and devotes time to direct interaction and supervision with the youth and Boys Town employees, guests, and visitors.
  • Assists in programs such as intramural sports, community retreats, and open recreation time with the goal of building a positive community and building positive relationships with BT youth.
  • Assists in keeping the Fieldhouse a safe and secure facility by monitoring youth, keeping accurate attendance records, making sure the requisite areas are locked, and surveying the building for any safety risks.
  • Assists with Boys Town High School home athletic events such as Football, Wrestling, Cross Country, Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball, and Track. Responsibilities can and will include taking tickets, running the clock/scoreboard, monitoring the crowd, being a host for visiting, and more.
  • Coordinates with supervisors and co-workers to set up equipment needed to implement and facilitate programs.
  • Uses the Boys Town Model to teach and monitor behaviors and skills at Recreation Activities.
  • If certified, may act as a lifeguard, responsible for water safety and pool procedures.
  • Assists in providing safety and security for youth during the school day and practice times.
  • Works with administration to account for youth whereabouts and safety.
  • Monitors Field House doors during school hours, ensuring all entries are authorized and safe.
  • Monitors radio communications.
  • Assists office staff and teachers in verifying student attendance and whereabouts within the Field House during the school day.
  • Assists teachers during the school day, providing support services and requests that otherwise would take teachers away from their classes.
  • Supervises youth who are referred, or have appointments, drivers’ education courses, or are waiting for FT pickup, etc.
  • Provides directions and access for deliveries arriving to the Field House.
  • Assists with visitors to the Field House, including guests with appointments to Athletic Director office.
  • Locks down Field House in case of emergency, fire drill or emergency, inclement weather drill or emergency, including communicating with administration on location of students.
  • Conducts sweeps after fire drill per instruction from administration.
  • Serves as a role model in carrying out activities and behaviors that reflect the values and principles of the Boys Town mission.
