Recreation Aide - Expanded Learning
About The Position
Under immediate supervision, the Recreation Aide helps provide and maintain a safe, clean, and secure environment for students participating in the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELO-P). The role organizes and oversees recreational and playground activities, applies District and program policies and procedures, and performs related duties as assigned. Typical activities include indoor and outdoor games, snack and meal times, arts and crafts, and field trips. The Recreation Aide monitors student behavior and assigned areas, encourages safety and positive conduct, communicates relevant information to program staff and families, and checks playground supplies and areas for hazards.
Responsibilities
- Organize and oversee recreational, playground, and other ELO-P activities, including games, snack and meal times, arts and crafts, and field trips.
- Store playground equipment and supplies properly and apply District and program policies, procedures, and regulations to assigned activities.
- Maintain control and discipline during playground and recreational activities, communicate rules and expectations, and settle disputes.
- Monitor and circulate throughout assigned areas to promote safety, good citizenship, integrity, fair play, sportsmanship, respect for property, and respect for others’ rights.
- Monitor and control student behavior during indoor and outdoor activities, and encourage good manners and proper nutrition during snack and meal times.
- Communicate with school and ELO-P administration and staff about pertinent information, including events, programs, observations, and incidents involving students.
- Greet visitors and assist families dropping off and picking up students.
- Conduct periodic inventories and safety checks of playground supplies; visually inspect playgrounds and surrounding areas for potential hazards.
- Report safety concerns and injuries to a supervisor and complete required accident reports.
