About The Position

Under the general direction of the Recreation Program Manager, the Recreation Aide provides direct service and general support for the Recreation Program. This part-time, temporary position with varied hours per week may include days, evening, and weekends. Weekly hours may be assigned one week in advance depending on enrollment levels, needs of the program, and other factors. The number of hours may vary significantly from week to week, with a minimum of 10 hours, and will not exceed 20 hours in one (1) work week. The anticipated duration of this position is mid-June through mid-August.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • One to two years of related work experience
  • Must have, and maintain, an established driving record which complies with the City’s acceptable standards and a valid Oregon or Washington driver’s license
  • Must pass criminal background check, and pre-placement drug screen
  • First Aid/CPR Certified
  • Must be 18 years old or older
  • Working with youth camp programs
  • Working public events
  • Customer service techniques and practices
  • Professional verbal and written communication
  • Directly supervise youth as needed in camps
  • Possession of excellent communication, organization, leadership and facilitation skills
  • Demonstrate solid decision-making skills
  • Communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally, both orally and in writing
  • Manage time efficiently and effectively
  • Self-direct and organize routine tasks for timely completion

Responsibilities

  • Assist with weekly summer programming including camps and events
  • Assist with daily set-up and take down
  • Greeting and interacting with participants
  • Supervise youth as needed or required during camps
  • Work with the Recreation Program Manager and Recreation Coordinator to review tasks to be completed for upcoming activities
  • Drive from site to site as needed and as scheduled
  • Work during day, evening, and weekend events such as Movies in the Park and Wednesdays in the Park
  • Assist with other recreation programs as needed
  • Run errands for recreation department as needed
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with supervisors, co-workers and the public
  • Maintain safe work habits and contribute to the safety of self, co-workers and the public
  • Maintain consistent and regular job attendance and adherence to working schedule
  • Effectively and clearly communicate to others in English verbally, and in both electronic and physical written form
  • Act as a mandatory reporter; report incidents of child abuse/neglect
  • Perform other duties as assigned
