About The Position
Mesilla Valley Hospital (UHS facility) is a free-standing psychiatric hospital in Las Cruces, New Mexico that provides mental health and drug & alcohol addiction services for adolescents, adults, and seniors. Mesilla Valley Hospital has been in operation since 1987, serving those in need of treatment for a variety of psychiatric and substance abuse issues. Mesilla Valley Hospital is a 120-bed facility, providing access to quality behavioral healthcare and substance abuse treatment to residents of New Mexico, West Texas and Arizona. Mesilla Valley Hospital is currently seeking a Recreation Aide for PRN hours. Position Summary The Recreation Aide is responsible for providing direct patient care to adolescents and adults. Will organize and lead various activities offered to in-patients (gym/exercise time, art time, etc.). Responsible for maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment, documenting, and working collaboratively with the Nursing Department.
Requirements
- Willing to work flexible hours.
- Must exert self-control in volatile or hostile situations.
- Able to respond well to deadlines.
- Ability to initiate/motivate patients to attend and participate in activities offered.
- Basic awareness of psychological needs of patient populations.
- Knowledge of growth and developmental issues for patients of all ages.
- Understanding of psychological needs of these groups and basic interventions used at different ages is required.
- Ability to assist patients in leisure/recreation activities.
- Ability to perform gross motor/physical activity, i.e., sports, exercise.
Responsibilities
