Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) is preferred.
  • One year of experience in the substance use / behavioral health field is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with Federal Regulations regarding 42 CFR Part 2 and HIPAA regulations for confidentiality of Substance Use Disorder information.
  • Adhere to posted shift assignments at the start of each shift.
  • Continuously observe and account for all patients to ensure their safety, documenting patient status in the EHR at least hourly.
  • Monitor the milieu, including bathrooms and group rooms, to maintain a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment, conducting checks hourly and/or as needed.
  • Understand and apply emergency procedures and codes, remaining calm during crises.
  • Maintain therapeutic boundaries by setting limits and respectfully enforcing rules.
  • Conduct room inspections and bag searches as directed.
  • Ensure the unit is neat and clean, performing end-of-shift duties to maintain a therapeutic environment, and restocking supplies as needed.
  • Attend bi-monthly supervision meetings with assigned supervisor and mandatory meetings.
  • Perform duties under the delegation authority of the RN/LPN working the assigned shift.
  • Complete admission consents and releases within the EHR.
  • Timely and accurately complete patient observation checks monitoring per practitioner/nurse order on the iPad (or paper if iPad is unavailable).
  • Print the daily census in preparation for the next shift.
  • Attend and participate in change of shift reports with nursing staff at the beginning and end of each shift.
  • Observe and report signs of withdrawal, medical changes, or behavioral changes to the nurse.
  • Monitor supplies necessary for patient showering and personal care to maintain individual hygiene and safety.
  • Utilize Walkie-Talkies as campus responders, performing radio checks hourly and when escorting patients off the unit.
  • Process new patient admissions, including EHR procedures, inventory, and documentation of clothing, electronics, and valuables.
  • Familiarize with and adhere to patient rights as defined by DPH Patient Rights Standards (105 CMR 164.079) for BSAS licensed programs and DMH Patient Rights Standards (104 CMR 28.11) for DMH licensed programs.
  • Monitor the milieu as directed by the nurse during Medication Administration (ATS/ACCS).
  • Complete medication monitoring training within 90 days of hire (or as appropriate) and perform Medication Monitoring during Observed Self-Administration on CSS/TSS units after successful completion.
  • Escort patients to meals, groups, medical appointments within the facility, and outdoor breaks.
  • Report off to the nurse when leaving the unit for any reason.
  • Facilitate assigned groups and enter notes into the EHR.
  • Provide transportation of residents, if applicable, ensuring policy and documentation are complete.
  • Engage in verbal de-escalation and patient-centered behavioral interventions in treatment.
  • Facilitate activity-based group activities and milieu engagement per the daily schedule as assigned.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Recovery Specialist Supervisor, Nursing Staff, Nurse Manager, Program/Site Director, DON, or COO.
