The Recovery Planning Biologist works with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service staff and partners to meet statutory obligations and develop effective recovery roadmaps for species listed as Endangered or Threatened under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). The role drafts initial Species Status Assessments (SSAs), Recovery Plans (RPs), and Recovery Implementation Strategies (RISs) for listed species without these documents, and updates existing documents when new information becomes available. The biologist collaborates with Service staff and partners to complete SSAs and RPs; organizes, produces, and delivers final administrative files; maintains and helps address peer, technical, and public review comments; and ensures substantive comments are incorporated into final deliverables. The work also includes collecting, cleaning, compiling, testing, and analyzing relevant species data and literature; suggesting analytical methods or recovery strategies; and analyzing data for current and future condition assessments. The biologist maintains communication with Service staff and partners. The opportunity is remote and offers 25–29 hours per week at $49.00 per hour. Applicants must be legally eligible to work in the United States and at least 55 years old. Enrollment in the Experienced Worker Programs is temporary and at-will; participants are not federal employees or NEW Solutions employees.
