About The Position

This role is responsible for orienting new residents to recovery housing expectations and resources, promoting a recovery-oriented environment, and building rapport with residents in a supportive manner. The specialist will monitor resident behavior, conduct whereabouts checks, and maintain a presence in common areas to ensure safety and adherence to the Code of Conduct. They will also be involved in facility security, policy adherence, emergency procedures, and detailed documentation of resident activities and facility status. This includes managing resident testing, searches, property, medication procedures, and transportation. The role also involves administrative support, maintaining supplies, and potentially providing coverage at other facilities.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Familiarity with confidentiality regulations governing the disclosure of client information and the storage of client records.
  • Familiarity with appropriate professional codes of ethics.
  • Must possess a valid Ohio driver’s license.
  • Must have a driving record that does not preclude the employee from being covered by Agency liability insurance.
  • Must have the cognitive skills needed to complete tasks, including abilities such as learning, remembering, focusing, categorizing, and integrating information for decision making, problem solving, and comprehending.
  • Has the ability to perform under stress and/or in emergencies.
  • Must have the ability to effectively work with Agency employees, outside contacts, and a diverse resident population.
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the U.S. without requiring sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Orients new residents to recovery housing expectations and available resources, using motivational and strengths-based approaches.
  • Recognizes signs of relapse risk or decompensation and reports concerns promptly to clinical or supervisory staff, using appropriate documentation protocols.
  • Promotes a recovery-oriented environment by modeling prosocial behavior, using person-first language, and encouraging mutual respect among residents.
  • Builds rapport with residents in a supportive, non-authoritative manner that aligns with recovery housing values while maintaining clear boundaries and consistent expectations.
  • Communicates relevant resident recovery needs or challenges to clinical team and supervisors via shift reports or direct communication.
  • Ensures residents have office access during designated hours; opens and closes the office as required.
  • Monitors resident behavior for adherence to the Code of Conduct and intervenes to ensure safety when necessary.
  • Conducts and documents resident whereabouts checks at least twice per shift, including overnight checks at random intervals.
  • Maintains an active presence in common areas to support residents and identify unsafe conditions or cleanliness issues.
  • Stays with residents during medical or mental health emergencies when needed or directed.
  • Performs perimeter door checks at the start and end of each shift and documents results.
  • Monitors and documents at least one hour of security camera footage per shift using the preview sheet; reports any concerns to the supervisor.
  • Keeps the main office and shared areas clean, including routine refrigerator cleaning and stocking the UDS bathroom.
  • Stays awake and alert throughout the shift to ensure safety and responsiveness to staff and resident needs.
  • Enforces all Agency and program policies consistently and stays informed of updates.
  • Follows emergency protocols for fire, tornado, and other drills; document participation and outcomes.
  • Notifies supervisors immediately of incidents involving law enforcement, EMS, or fire departments.
  • Executes all emergency procedures including key control, AWOL protocols, and contraband management.
  • Reads, initials, and dates all shift reports within the first hour of shift.
  • Begins and completes accurate shift reports and files appropriately.
  • Updates and prints essential documents daily or as needed: apartment rosters, urine drug screen lists, urine drug screen tracker, alco logs, and sign in/out logs.
  • Files and scans documentation in CareLogic or ORION and stores in designated areas.
  • Copies and prepares frequently used forms and checklists.
  • Communicates essential information to incoming staff during shift handoff.
  • Conducts and accurately records alcohol testing and urine drug screens per Agency policy.
  • Ensures testing results are logged in ORION accurately and uploaded to CareLogic as required.
  • Prepares UDS samples for transport by the end of shift in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Ensures proper documentation and storage of UDS samples.
  • Searches apartments and personal items per policy and documents findings.
  • Secures and logs any confiscated items following chain of custody procedures.
  • Maintains property storage area in an accurate and organized manner.
  • Inventories, labels, and secures belongings of discharged, hospitalized, or AWOL residents, ensuring another staff is present.
  • Verifies that no contraband or excess property is accepted into the facility.
  • Complies with recovery housing medication procedures including logging, inventory, and audits.
  • Immediately reports medication discrepancies to a supervisor.
  • Transports residents safely per Agency rules; documents mileage, gas use, and vehicle condition.
  • Communicates transport problems and vehicle maintenance needs to supervisor or Facilities Manager.
  • Maintains supplies and organizes storage areas in the main office.
  • Notify supervisors and clinical staff of call-offs, tardiness, and shift coverage needs.
  • Assist in finding coverage when requesting time off.
  • Provides coverage at other facilities as needed or assigned.
  • Washes laundry using bleach and prepares bedrolls, ensuring at least three are available for following day.
  • Notifies supervisor of low linen supplies.
  • Learns new tasks, remembers processes, maintains focus, completes tasks independently, makes timely decisions in the contexts of workflows, and is able to complete tasks that have a speed and/or productivity quota.
  • Manages time and organizes work demands appropriately.
  • Meets deadlines established by the treatment department management team.
