About The Position

Loudoun County Government is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time Recovery Court Probation Officer position within the Department of Community Corrections. This role involves supervising participants in the Recovery Court program, established by the Loudoun County Circuit Court. The position requires collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to promoting lasting recovery from illegal drugs or alcohol, balancing compassion with accountability. The officer will submit reports to the Court, testify in Court, conduct drug testing, attend Recovery Court Team meetings, and work closely with the Recovery Court Coordinator. Responsibilities include establishing and monitoring community service, ensuring fulfillment of court-ordered conditions, maintaining accurate case notes and files, performing substance abuse assessments, and making appropriate referrals. The role supports behavioral change through incentives and sanctions, and involves collecting samples for urinalysis and administering alcohol breath tests. Strong writing and communication skills are essential for interacting with legal professionals, law enforcement, and court personnel. The successful candidate will be a team player, contributing to both the Recovery Court Team and the broader probation team within the Department of Community Corrections.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, sociology, psychology, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum of two years related experience in the criminal justice field.
• Strong writing skills.
• Strong oral communication skills.
• Ability to work as part of a team.
• Must undergo and complete a criminal background check.
• Must be willing to supervise criminal defendants in a Community Corrections office setting.
• Must be willing to perform occasional residential visits.
• Must be willing to work with criminal offenders who may have violent tendencies.
• Must be willing to enter the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center or other correctional facilities, as needed.
• Experience working with criminally involved, substance-abusing defendants/offenders and/or strong background (knowledge/education) in substance abuse, addiction, mental health and appropriate services/treatments.
• VCIN certification is required; selected candidate will obtain certification within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Supervise participants placed in the Recovery Court program.

• Interact with representatives from the legal community such as the Commonwealth’s Attorneys, Defense Attorneys, Law Enforcement, Judges, and Court Personnel.
• Work as part of the Recovery Court Team and the probation team within the Department of Community Corrections.
