About The Position

The Recovery Counselor is a para-professional treatment team member who provides direct care to meet clients’ physical and psychosocial needs through direct and indirect physical and verbal interactions. The role helps maintain a safe, therapeutic environment for clients, visitors, staff, and physicians by modeling appropriate behaviors, monitoring daily client activities, following safety regulations, and keeping the facility clean, orderly, sanitary, and attractive. Duties may include assisting with client laundry and household cleaning, driving clients in a company vehicle when requested, screening incoming clients or visitors for contraband, inventorying client property, monitoring surveillance equipment, controlling access to the center, directing incoming clients, conducting physical security checks of the grounds, and responding to fires or other emergencies. The counselor remains vigilant over the facility’s general milieu to support quality care, facility operations, and safety. Most duties are performed under the direct supervision of the Program Director or designee, though some tasks are completed independently. The position is based at Olive View Crisis Residential Treatment, a 16-bed residential facility in Sylmar, California. The program provides a short-term, home-like setting and 24/7 intensive treatment as an alternative to hospitalization or urgent care. Services include physical and psychological evaluations, mental health counseling, case management, life-skills and interpersonal training, and assistance locating permanent housing.
