About The Position

The recovery coach provides peer recovery support services (PRSS) to individuals in recovery from substance use disorders. They offer empathy, understanding, and encouragement, aiming to motivate positive change and sustained recovery. Recovery coaching may involve goal setting, coping strategies, re-entry support, and assistance in accessing relevant resources. The recovery coach must agree to adhere to a confidentiality agreement and demonstrate passion for Full Circle’s mission and core values, including the concept of ensuring that recovery comes first. This is a part-time, non-exempt position and is based on a 20-hour work week with some flexibility depending on program and service needs. The position will be primarily based in Ankeny, with some additional responsibilities at the Des Moines location. The recovery coach is expected to work one evening every week and may be asked to work occasional evenings or weekends for community events. The recovery coach will adhere to the following schedule: Tuesdays: 9am-6pm (Ankeny) Wednesdays: 1pm-5pm (Des Moines) Thursdays: 11am-7pm (Ankeny)

Requirements

  • Personal experience with substance use disorder, mental health conditions, recovery, and/or justice system involvement.
  • Knowledge of or personal experience with recovery systems, medication-assisted treatment, multiple pathways of recovery, harm reduction, criminal justice systems, person-centered approaches, and peer recovery support services.
  • Relevant education and experience in human services, social work, criminal justice, or related field within the nonprofit sector.
  • Must agree to complete the CCAR Recovery Coach Academy and Ethical Considerations for Recovery Coaches within three months of hire.
  • Creative problem-solving skills with the ability to think critically and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills; capable of interacting with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and partnerships simultaneously.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), virtual meeting platforms (e.g., Zoom), and data management.
  • Valid driver’s license, good driving record, car insurance, and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Offer peer recovery support services at our new location in Ankeny to individuals seeking to initiate and/or sustain their recovery, onsite and in the community.
  • Help individuals develop recovery plans, connect with resources, and navigate challenges.
  • Practice appropriate self-disclosure of personal recovery experiences to inspire and motivate individuals to seek positive change.
  • Utilize and implement evidence-based practices to determine individual needs to assist with goal setting.
  • Collaborate with individuals to set realistic and achievable recovery goals.
  • Collect and enter data into the organization’s data system, assist with reporting and continuous program improvement.
  • Develop individualized recovery plans tailored to each person's unique circumstances and goals.
  • Provide guidance on accessing relevant resources and services within the community.
  • Support and encourage multiple pathways of recovery, including harm reduction strategies.
  • Advocate for the rights and well-being of individuals with substance misuse or mental health conditions.
  • Educate individuals on available treatment options, recovery resources, coping strategies, and self-advocacy.
  • Collaborate with the Ankeny Police Department Community Engagement Team to support Ankeny residents seeking to initiate or sustain recovery.
  • Coordinate with other healthcare professionals, counselors, and providers, to ensure a holistic approach to recovery.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations to provide the most meaningful and effective peer recovery support services for recoverees.
  • Serve as a collaborative partner, representing Full Circle Recovery, with other organizations at the Ankeny Community Resource Connection and in the Ankeny community.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of interactions and progress.
  • Prepare reports on individual outcomes and contribute to program evaluation.
  • Engage in ongoing training and professional development to stay informed about best practices in recovery coaching on topics such as ethics, boundaries, communication skills, recovery principles, and understanding of addiction and multiple pathways of recovery.
  • Practice self-care to maintain personal well-being and resilience.
  • Assures all work performed is done in accordance with OSHA safety standards and those established by Full Circle Recovery.
