About The Position

The Salvation Army is hiring a Receptionist for its Family Services department. This is a full-time, non-exempt position with a schedule of Monday through Friday, 8am to 4:30pm. The Receptionist is responsible for managing the main lobby's foot traffic, directing clients and associates, and handling incoming telephone calls, mail, and packages. The role requires a professional demeanor and the ability to support the mission and values of The Salvation Army.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Experience with a front desk/reception area
  • Good verbal communication skills with an ability to communicate well with a broad variety of constituents including clients, leadership, and coworkers.
  • Meets the Child Protection Clearances required by Delaware’s Beau Biden Law based on information found on the SBI and FBI Criminal Record Checks.
  • Must understand and support the mission and values of The Salvation Army.

Responsibilities

  • Control the flow of foot traffic through the main lobby, directing and/or referring clients and associates to the correct departments.
  • Receive and redirect all telephone calls and mail/packages to the appropriate parties.
  • Answer phone calls through the switchboard and gather sufficient information from callers to ensure proper call routing.
  • Greet and assist all people calling and entering the building in a professional manner.
  • Take detailed messages as needed or requested for individuals when voice mail is not an option or callers cannot be readily connected to a Salvation Army associate.
  • Assist consumers with obtaining food from the food pantry.
  • Complete mailing, sorting, and folding projects as assigned.
  • Take necessary measures to ensure security in the reception area.
  • Keep the receiving area neat and clean. Communicate heavy cleaning needs to leadership or the maintenance department and request assistance as needed.
  • Complete monthly food statistical reports.
  • Ensure that residents sign in and out as they enter/leave the building.
  • Check resident handbags & luggage upon entering the building for food, illegal drugs, weapons, and contraband.
  • Receive packages and mail delivered to 104 West 5th. Record the date received, including the from and to addressee, on a log. Follow through to ensure the item is given to the addressee.
