About The Position

Michigan Orthopedic Center is a multi-physician surgical practice serving mid-Michigan since 1990. We are committed to providing state-of-the art, high quality orthopedic care and professional, compassionate patient experience. Our sub-specialty fellowship trained surgeons treat complex orthopedic surgical issues including joint replacement of the hip, knee and shoulder, foot and ankle surgery, spinal surgery, fracture surgery, hand, and sports medicine. We are looking for a motivated and energetic full-time medical receptionist. The Receptionist will be responsible for reception, medical records, telephone/patient scheduling, monitoring faxes, and general clerical functions of MOC. This role plays a vital part in creating a welcoming, efficient, and patient-centered experience.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Minimum two years medical office/billing experience
  • Basic computer skills including Electronic Health Record/Practice Management systems (EHR/PM)
  • Familiarity with insurance plans
  • Effective, service-oriented communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Manage the scheduling and rescheduling of patient appointments according to provider templates and office protocols--both in person and over the phone.
  • Verify and update patient demographics and insurance information.
  • Collect copayments, balances, or any required documentation.
  • Perform accurate data entry into the electronic health record system.
  • Scan, index, and file all necessary documentation.
  • Check patients in and out.
  • Balance the daily cash bag.
  • Maintain a clean and inviting waiting area.
  • Process off work/disability forms and medical records requests.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of patient information and their right to privacy.
  • Answer incoming calls promptly and professionally.
  • Schedule appointments for both new and established patients.
  • Send out new patient welcome letters and electronic invites for the patient portal.
  • Direct calls to the appropriate department or staff member as needed, adhering to call center workflows and scheduling policies.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of provider schedules, appointment types, and office services.
  • Provide accurate information to patients regarding office policies, procedures, and appointment details.
  • Uphold a positive and professional demeanor, delivering exemplary customer service at every interaction, even when handling high call volumes.
