About The Position

The Receptionist at Benton Clinic is responsible for a variety of administrative and patient-facing tasks. This role involves managing outpatient registration, handling patient demographic and insurance information, and ensuring all necessary signatures and documentation are obtained. The receptionist will also be involved in data entry for diagnoses and charges, managing patient payments, and providing medical information to authorized agencies. Key duties include typing correspondence, filing, maintaining medical records, and serving as the primary point of telephone communication for the clinic. Additionally, the position assists with scheduling referrals, managing office supplies, and participating in clinic-wide programs such as in-service training and quality improvement initiatives. The receptionist plays a crucial role in coordinating patient care services with the healthcare team and maintaining positive public relations for the clinic.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Typing speed of 35 WPM.
  • Proficiency in operating a computer, typewriter, computer printer, and adding machine.
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Ability to stand for small amounts of time.
  • Ability to walk considerable amounts during a normal workday.
  • Ability to perform minimum lifting (15 to 20 pounds).
  • Essential visual ability for dealing with the public and operating office equipment.
  • Essential hearing ability for dealing with the public and operating office equipment.
  • Essential speaking ability for dealing with the public, operating the switchboard, and cashiering duties.

Responsibilities

  • Completes outpatient registration, including generating patient charts with demographic information.
  • Collects patient insurance and/or payment information.
  • Obtains appropriate signatures for patient certification of admission and assignment of benefits.
  • Enters diagnosis codes into the computer upon completion of patient assessment and/or treatment.
  • Receives, balances, and accounts for payments collected from patients, ensuring appropriate charges are entered.
  • Provides medical information as appropriate to requesting agencies.
  • Types correspondence and reports, and files information.
  • Enters medical record information into the appropriate patient chart.
  • Functions as the focus of telephone communication, answering calls, taking messages, and directing calls.
  • Assists in scheduling referrals.
  • Stores medical record files in an organized and retrieval system.
  • Assists in maintaining an adequate inventory of medical and office supplies.
  • Participates in in-service programs.
  • Participates in Quality Improvement program as required.
  • Works with other members of the health care team to coordinate patient care services.
  • Maintains good public relations for the clinic.
  • Performs other duties as needed or requested.
