About The Position

Poplar Springs Hospital is a 183 bed acute care and residential facility dedicated to providing behavioral health services for adults and adolescents, including programs for active duty military. Located in Petersburg, Virginia, the hospital offers a serene, nature-like setting. The facility is seeking a PRN (as needed) Receptionist to manage telephones, assist visitors, and perform other administrative duties. Applicants must have flexibility with their availability as hours will vary. Poplar Springs Hospital is a subsidiary of Universal Health Services, Inc. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Sufficient hearing capability to receive and place calls
  • Sufficient manual dexterity (eye hand coordination) to operate switchboard equipment
  • Pleasant telephone and paging voice
  • Ability to deal with the public in a polite, positive and professional manner
  • Ability to utilize judgment in receiving guests, as well as in receiving, transferring calls and/or taking messages
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and people in a calm manner
  • Ability to remember names, faces and locations of staff, allied health professionals and physicians
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality of hospital and patient information
  • Must be at least 21 years of age per Commonwealth of Virginia Interdepartmental Regulation of Children’s Residential Facilities
  • Must have patience, tact, and a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm
  • Good communication skills; must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
  • Basic clerical skills
  • Basic experience with office equipment (telephone, copy machine, fax, etc.)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
  • Ability to problem solve and accept feedback when circumstances warrant such actions
  • Willingness to interact with patients with varying levels of cognitive functioning
