About The Position

This position is responsible for welcoming patients and visitors, answering inquiries, and maintaining the reception area. The receptionist optimizes patient satisfaction and provider efficiency by scheduling appointments, managing patient flow, and keeping appointments on schedule. They also comfort patients by anticipating anxieties and answering questions, maintain patient accounts by handling personal and billing information and collecting payments, and manage office supplies and equipment. Confidentiality of patient information is crucial, and the role involves following policies and procedures to maintain operations. Secondary duties may include handling mail, filing and retrieving patient records, responding to emergencies, and contributing to team efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Welcomes patients and visitors with a greeting, answers or refers inquiries, and maintains the reception area.
  • Schedules appointments in person or by telephone to optimize patient satisfaction, provider time, and treatment room utilization.
  • Keeps patient appointments on schedule by notifying providers of patient arrivals and informing them of delays.
  • Comforts patients by anticipating anxieties and answering questions.
  • Maintains patient accounts by obtaining, recording, and updating personal and billing information, and collects and records patient payments.
  • Maintains office supplies and equipment by anticipating needed supplies, placing and expediting orders, and verifying receipt of ordered supplies.
  • Protects patient rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information.
  • Maintains operations by following policies and procedures and reporting needed changes.
  • Gets and distributes incoming, outgoing, and inter-office mail.
  • Ensures availability of treatment information by filing and retrieving patient records.
  • Helps patients in distress by responding to emergencies.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
